Project Background

The Park Avenue – Ferry Road Transmission Main Project is a joint project between the North Wales Water Authority and North Penn Water Authority with water provided by the award winning Forest Park Water Treatment Plant. Over five (5) miles of new water main will be installed to further enhance and bolster the regional water distribution network for these areas in northern Bucks County.  Water services to any existing NWWA or NPWA customers will NOT be affected in any way,   The water service to the existing and future residential and commercial customers in these areas will be dramatically improved with upgraded domestic and fire water service.

This website is designed to provide uniform updated information of the anticipated construction activities to all agencies so daily travel arrangements and planning might be best achieved with minimal inconvenience.  The new water main will start in the Borough of Chalfont at the Forest Park Water Treatment Plant and run in a northerly direction on Park Ave to Ferry Road and then on Ferry Road to an easterly direction on Swamp Road (Rt. 313).  The construction activities will be managed by the North Wales Water Authority (NWWA) and the appropriate individual(s) can be reached by phone at 215-699-4836 or through the Contact Us link here.

We hope that you find this website a helpful source of information for construction updates and road detours. The drop down boxes above link our inter-active mapping system to provide you with a visual depiction of the construction zones and general routing of posted detours.

Much of the proposed water mains will be installed within the existing roadways and inevitably will create numerous traffic and pedestrian detours and congestion during the construction process. We anticipate that the traffic detours will be implemented in the summer of 2021 on a daily basis when construction commences and will continue through the end of 2021 or early 2022 when we anticipate the bulk of construction to be completed. While all travel lanes will be re-opened daily with temporary asphalt patching materials, in all likelihood the final wearing surface paving will not be completed until summer of 2022. The affected roads will be posted with the applicable detours and “Local Traffic Only” signs. There will be times when access through an entire work zone will be briefly severely or completely restricted to passage during construction hours. Please bear in mind that while the roads may be open to travel when work is not in progress they might not be perfectly ‘smooth’ until the final restorations and final surface is applied.

The drop down boxes above contain detailed maps for the work areas in Chalfont Borough, New Britain Township and Plumstead Township(s). The index map to the provides an overview of the 5-mile project area. These maps will be updated regularly to provide you with more specific details as work progresses, including any proposed vehicular traffic detour routes to be in effect.

The project partners and their contractor(s) will attempt to minimize disruptions as much as possible, while still maintaining a SAFE and high quality water main installation. If you would like e-mail notifications each time the maps are updated, click here.

For YOUR SAFETY and that of the construction workers, inspectors and all others in the work area, we ask that you observe all roadway restrictions and be especially careful when traveling in any construction work zone. Your patience and cooperation during construction is greatly appreciated!
